The BackSystem3 was designed for clinical use, to help relieve patients suffering from back pain, caused by muscle spasms, contracture (hamstring) strains, facet irritation, and abnormal lumbo-pelvic rhythm. Muscle fatigue, trigger points, and other secondary manifestations of injury tend to complicate the clinical picture for physicians, trainers, and other health care providers. The modulation of pain is too much and too complex to explain in this overview. However, the stretching of muscles, pre and post exercise, helps to diminish the random fiber adhesions associated with micro trauma to vigorously exercised muscle fibers. This helps in lowering the predisposition of muscular strains and ligamentous sprains during a sporting activity.

In summary, the BackSystem3 enables an individual to passively stretch tight, contracted muscles without assistance in a controlled environment. Certain groups of muscles can be isolated for specific lengthening to promote synergy and decrease the likelihood of future injury. Certain types of pain can be modulated to speed healing time. Outside of the clinical applications, there exists a mild cardiovascular workout, upper arm strengthening and toning, abdominal muscle toning and an increased range of motion throughout the spine.
